lyrics

There’s a warm, dark, warbling place in my memory. It’s a room ten years distant, and ever receding. It echoes with the old songs, where they wobble under tape hiss and conversation.

The ghosts of our younger selves are there, and they’re always getting further away. They reach up through the depths, but I can never quite reach them. Sometimes I can look. Sometimes I have to turn off the tape deck and turn away.

You know what I miss?
Our euphoric girlhood friendship
How just you and me could expand to fill all the empty space
How my heart broke when you hit that high note
How the bass drum in the basement made our blood pump
Did your heart grow complacent, babe?
Mine did, and I don’t know why
